Titus 2 Ramblings

Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

unmindfully What is required of a mentor?

Older? Grandmotherly? Paul has implied that the older woman is a godly role model, above anything else. A woman with greater spiritual experience and maturity also qualifies as “older” in the Lord.

Reverent in behavior? We are to have a lifestyle worthy of respect at all times. Does this not bring up the Proverbs 31 woman in your mind?

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beautify is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

She must walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

Able to keep confidences? Would you trust someone if you knew they couldn’t keep a confidence?

Wise women store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
Proverbs 10:14

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Discernment. Integrity.

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;, keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3

Not addicted to much wine. Moderation as to what we take in?

Able to teach what is good:

And is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds. I Timothy 5:10

Other important qualities of a mentor? How about being available and willing to share in another’s life. This can become very time-consuming.

A continued longing to know our Savior better and to have a closer relationship with Him. Wouldn’t you want to be accountable to someone who is abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ?

A good listener with discernment. Understanding the facts behind the feelings.

These are just some notes of mine while reading the book entitled, “Women Encouraging Women,” by Lucibel VanAtta. They are just to get your mind thinking. Are you looking for a mentor? Are you qualified to BE a mentor? I should finish this book

I would love to hear your thoughts/comments.
