My beloved husband is out of town, sitting somewhere in Canada in a truck pulling a bottle of propane. He emails me this morning at 6:49am with the following:

I slept in the middle of a slide that was half a mile wide 1200 ft long and 450 ft deep. It completely obliterated a town. They tunneled a path through it for the Crows Nest Hwy.  It happened at 4am. Nice way to wake up!  Have a good day. Love ya.

My reply?

WHAT? Where were you?

I worried all morning until he finally sends me the following:

hmm… maybe I should of told you it happened in 1903. Crows nest pass. The town was called Frank. Its not there anymore.

When I finally got over it, I emailed him back:

Don’t you know it’s not April 1st yet? I have been worrying about you all morning!!! You got me!

To which he replied:

Here I got you and I wasn’t even trying!! Good thing you pray for me ’cause maybe that slide wouldn’t have missed me by 103 years. I could have parked to sleep in crows nest gulch and woke up underneath Crows Nest pass! Whew! That was close!! Thanks honey!

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

What is required of a mentor?

Older? Grandmotherly? Paul has implied that the older woman is a godly role model, above anything else. A woman with greater spiritual experience and maturity also qualifies as “older” in the Lord.

Reverent in behavior? We are to have a lifestyle worthy of respect at all times. Does this not bring up the Proverbs 31 woman in your mind?

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beautify is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

She must walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

Able to keep confidences? Would you trust someone if you knew they couldn’t keep a confidence?

Wise women store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
Proverbs 10:14

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Discernment. Integrity.

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;, keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3

Not addicted to much wine. Moderation as to what we take in?

Able to teach what is good:

And is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds. I Timothy 5:10

Other important qualities of a mentor? How about being available and willing to share in another’s life. This can become very time-consuming.

A continued longing to know our Savior better and to have a closer relationship with Him. Wouldn’t you want to be accountable to someone who is abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ?

A good listener with discernment. Understanding the facts behind the feelings.

These are just some notes of mine while reading the book entitled, “Women Encouraging Women,” by Lucibel VanAtta. They are just to get your mind thinking. Are you looking for a mentor? Are you qualified to BE a mentor? I should finish this book

I would love to hear your thoughts/comments.

Isn’t this just beautiful?  You can view this and more at http://www.garybclark.com. He does a beautiful job!

A local homeschool mom, who I don’t know very well, tracked us down to be a part of her kids’ science project for the science fair.

She was looking for a couple large families and a set of identical twins. We had the only identical twins around that they could find.

Anyway, we went to their home and their little girl, who was just darling, and recently turned 7, asked each of us to hold out our right index finger while she rolled them onto the ink pad then onto the square of paper, which was labeled with our names on the back.

They explained that they found out there are 3 major types of fingerprints:

Swirls
Loops
Arches

They were interested to test their hypothesis that my identical twins would have the same or similar prints. I already knew they wouldn’t from reading my HAVING TWINS book, but that’s okay. Although they did turn out to be different, they were still similar. One of my other daughters had and “island”, which I guess is a subcategory of the swirl, while another had a combination arch and loop.

For fun, I found a website for you to check out if you are interested.
